An (almost) lifelong Westchester resident, Sam has reported on all facets of Westchester since he graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in print journalism, including stints at North County News and The Examiner. A film columnist for WAG Magazine, Sam's moviegoing expertise has been profiled in the New York Times and he was a featured guest on VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live.

Six Briarcliff athletes earned All-State recognition for their accomplishments in the fall season. Rye Neck Residents Voting On New Roof For Schools RYE NECK, N.Y. -- Voters in the  Rye Neck Union Free School District will be voting on two bond propositions on Feb. 13 that would cost more than $27 million.The bonds will address aging infrastructure, including replacing roofs and upgrading classrooms.  The first proposition, at approximately $6.28 million, involves replacing the flat roof sections at each of the district’s buildings. Ravi Thackurdeen, the valedictorian of Marlboro High School, drowned while studying in Costa  Rica in 2012 while he was attending college. In response, his parents have launched a website warning of the risks of traveling abroad and working with Rep. New York Schools Could Start In August School before September? Say it isn't so. The State Education Department is considering allowing school districts to start in August, according to State Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia. Schools are currently not allowed to start before Sept. 1.  Elia told the Times Union schools have pushed to start before Sept. 1, since it would give them greater flexibility. Elia also said the state is also considering allowing school years to be counted in hours rather than days. Mohegan Lake 'Porch Pirate' Stole $155 Worth Of Packages, Police Say A 24-year-old Mohegan Lake "Porch Pirate" was being a real Grinch, according to Yorktown Police. Leisvel Gonzalez-Lopez was arrested and charged Tuesday with petit larceny, a Class A misdemeanor after police say he stole $155.17 worth of packages from a home on Christine Road.  The homeowner told police the packages were stolen between 6:15 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Ossining Town Board Appoints New Councilwoman OSSINING, N.Y. -- Jackie Shaw is set to be the newest member of the Ossining Town Board. The board has unanimously selected Jackie Shaw, a Briarcliff Manor resident, to serve the unexpired term of Kim Jeffrey. $78M Boost To Yonkers Schools Gets Cuomo's Signature YONKERS, N.Y. -- Yonkers Public Schools are getting $78 million to help with rebuilding efforts. A bill sponsored by State Senator Andrew Stewart-Cousins (D-Yonkers) and Assemblywoman Shelley Mayer (D-Yonkers) was signed into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo Tuesday. The $78 million will help build three new schools in Yonkers. The average age of Yonkers' school buildings is 75 years old, with the oldest building at 119 years old. New Windsor Waits For Donkey To Give Birth Molly the donkey has the unenviable task of having to give birth while the whole world is watching. Molly, who lives at Devitt's Nursery and Supply in New Windsor, is having the birth of her baby foal live streamed on YouTube. Molly is currently residing on the nursery's Christmas on the Farm trail having been borrowed from Goodnow Family Farm in Ulster. Molly went into labor Monday but as of Tuesday afternoon, has not given birth. The gender of the foal is unknown. The father is named Dominick.  To view Molly, click here.
