14-Year-Old Accidentally Shoots Self At Capital Region Apartment Complex A 14-year-old boy is recovering after apparently shooting himself at an apartment complex in the region. The Rensselaer County incident happened Sunday, Nov. 26, in Rensselaer, at the Kinwood Apartments located on Chase Drive. According to Rensselaer Police, the boy walked into Albany Medical Center Hospital at around 7:45 p.m. with an apparent gunshot wound. A preliminary investigation found that he had accidentally shot himself. Woman Swipes Money Orders Sent From Darien, Forges For Herself, Police Say A 31-year-old woman is accused of stealing money orders that were sent from a Fairfield County mailbox and pocketing the money for herself. Julissa Herrera, age 31, of the Bronx, turned herself in to Darien Police on Friday, Nov. 17, on an open warrant. According to investigators, the victim contacted police in July 2023 saying that two of her Western Union money orders had been stolen. She had placed the money orders into a USPS mailbox on Corbin Drive in Darien in April 2023, but later noticed that the funds never showed up in her bank account. Driver Going 95 MPH On LIE After 'Glass Of Wine' Among 6 Thanksgiving Weekend DWI Busts: Cops The long Thanksgiving weekend included a stint in jail for several people accused of driving drunk on Long Island roadways. Six suspects were arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated in Suffolk County between Wednesday, Nov. 22 and Sunday, Nov. 26, according to sheriff’s officials. Full Closures Scheduled For Portion Of Long Island Expressway A scheduled highway closure could spell delays for Long Island drivers this week. Both directions of the Long Island Expressway are scheduled to close nightly at exit 63 in Brookhaven beginning Monday, Nov. 27. I-495 will close from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. while crews facilitate a bridge deck renewal project, according to the Department of Transportation. The 36-year-old wife and mother from Cohoes in Albany County died early Wednesday, Nov. 8, due to complications experienced during childbirth, according to her obituary. Bicyclist Struck, Killed On Capital Region Road A 62-year-old man has died after being struck by a pickup truck while bicycling on a busy roadway in the region. The Albany County incident happened at around 11:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27, in Colonie, on Central Avenue near Elmwood Street. Missing Capital Region Man Found Dead The search for a missing man from the region has ended in tragedy. Albany County resident Richard Ryther, age 71, of Glenmont, was reported missing Friday, Nov. 24. On Sunday, Nov. 26, Bethlehem Police announced that Ryther was found dead in a wooded area at the Moh-He-Con-Nuck Nature Preserve. The preserve is located just yards from Ryther’s home on River Road. His death does not appear suspicious, police said. The Albany County Coroner’s Office will determine an official cause of death. Rensselaer County resident Emily Dziamba, age 30, of North Greenbush, had last been seen at around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26. 'Disgusted': Jail Guard Forces Long Island Inmate Into Sex Act, DA Says A corrections officer at a Long Island jail is accused of forcing an inmate to perform a sex act on him. Jason Middleton, age 35, of Central Islip, was arrested Friday, Nov. 24, stemming from an alleged incident at the Suffolk County jail in Riverhead.
