Hochul Signs Controversial ‘Clean Slate’ Law Sealing Most Criminal Convictions Millions of New Yorkers will soon have their criminal convictions sealed under new legislation meant to better help them find jobs and housing. Gov. Kathy Hochul signed the “Clean Slate Act” into law during a ceremony in Brooklyn on Thursday, Nov. 16. Under the new law, those with misdemeanor convictions will have their records sealed three years after their release from incarceration, while felony convictions will be sealed after eight years. Update: 'Language Barrier' Sparked Fears Of Kidnapping Attempt In Capital Region, Police Say Call it a massive misunderstanding. Police now say an attempted kidnapping of a 10-year-old boy in the region actually has an innocent explanation. In Columbia County, Hudson Police were called at around noon Thursday, Nov. 16, with reports of an attempted kidnapping near the Crosswinds Apartments on Harry Howard Boulevard. Beheaded Chicken, Goat Head Found At Long Island Cemeteries; Reward Offered For Answers Authorities are investigating after several dead, mutilated animals were discovered at two Long Island cemeteries. The first incident was reported on Wednesday, Nov. 8, at Middle Island’s Union Cemetery, located on Middle Country Road. YouTuber Stabs Stepfather To Death At Capital Region Home, Police Say A 29-year-old YouTube creator is behind bars accused of stabbing his stepfather to death at a home in the region. Emergency crews in Saratoga County were called to a home in Stillwater, located on Gurba Drive South, at around 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16 for a domestic dispute.
