Ramapo, Yonkers To Host 89th Daily News Golden Gloves
HILLBURN, N.Y. -- The St. Lawrence Recreation Center will host Golden Gloves boxing on Saturday, Feb. 6.
The tournament, sponsored by the Daily News and now in its 89th year, will bring the sport to more than 30 locations starting Thursday, Jan. 28, through April 19, according to the tournament calendar.
In addition to the Hillburn event, two others, one on Feb. 11 and another on March 30, will take place in Yonkers.
The St. Lawrence Recreation Center is located at 115 Thorne Valley Road.

Pot Holes, Crumbling Bridges Cost N.Y. Drivers Thousands, Report Says
The condition of New York's roads is abysmal and is costing drivers near the state capital thousands each year, claims one nonprofit, according to Time Warner Cable News.
The group, TRIP, released its report on Thursday, noting that population growth is the state has far surpassed the expansion of the transportation system, according to the report.
Based in Washington, D.C., TRIP estimated that drivers in Albany pay about $2,000 dealing with poor and congested roads, according to Time Warner Cable News, which noted that AAA reported more than 200,000 flat tires in 2015.

New Planet 10 Times Earth's Size May Lie Beyond Pluto
Just as society was moving on from the Pluto situation, one of the astronomers who helped demote the former planet is claiming to have found evidence of a new planet within our solar system to take its place, according to npr.org.
Mike Brown, a scientist at Caltech, says the undiscovered planet is bigger than Earth and orbiting at the most distant reaches of our solar system, according to npr.org.
Brown, an experienced astronomer, previously discovered Eris, a body larger than Pluto that didn't quite make it planethood, and Sedna, a dwarf planet deep in space, according to npr.org.
